poetry

the cord was wrapped around your neck

the cord was wrapped around your neck
my water broke, it
exploded, daddy held my
legs

we looked at you
with wild love
a lone wolf
red like the dickens

“blue eyes like your mother”

I say they are
your grandfather’s eyes
your grandmother’s eyes
you rage like them too

a scarlet tempest
half moon grinning
an uncagable bird
I carried you there

we try our best
most of the time
