blood water

Two years ago he came home the next morning, sober, radiating, as high as the sun. He ordered me fancy bottled water because he said plastic was bad for the baby.

I still get the water. Every other week a black man shiny with sweat carries the bottles two at a time to my doorstep.

The bill is always overdue.
