poetry

let’s not say it outloud

You had me in a corner.

Who else could I tell?

You can’t do that anymore.

You just can’t.

It scares me.

Honestly.

I don’t know what else to say.

My mouth wants to say “I’m sorry.”

But I’m not sure why.

I’m sorry about,
not sorry for.

Is that a cop out?

I’m sorry about the pervasive sadness.
The fog that follows,
the long hours,
the relentlessness
of it all.

You are loved by so many.
That makes it all easier,
it must?
It does.
IT HAS TOO.

“I’m sorry.”

The only words that
escape these days.

If I mean them
is anyone’s guess.

(air quoted “eye roll” goes here, for effect.)
(air quoted “eye roll” goes here, to acknowledge my failure to communicate.)(air quoted “eye roll” goes here, to admit that sorry is never all I can say.)
